Employment and Internship Opportunities at CFC
Working at CFC
The challenges presented by the growing power of religious and political conservatism, especially within the US government and the Catholic church, make this an exciting and important time for progressive, feminist activists and scholars to work with Catholics for Choice. Working at CFC can provide prochoice Catholics, as well as others interested in religion, social justice and reproductive rights, with a unique opportunity to make a real contribution to women’s well being.
Current priority issues for CFC include:
- Reshaping the abortion debate in the US in ways that acknowledge the complex moral dimensions of the issue, especially exploring and communicated values that include respect for both women’s rights and well being and the value of fetal life.
- Responding to the “moral values” debate in ways that enhance a moral vision that includes individual rights and responsibilities, sexual and reproductive freedom and separation of church and state, along with peace and the eradication of poverty.
- Working in coalition with like-minded groups and individuals to ensure that a progressive religious agenda includes sexual, women’s and reproductive rights.
- Monitoring and reporting on the growing activism of right wing Catholic groups, the bishops and their publications.
- Promoting access to reproductive health services in Catholic-controlled health care settings and challenging state and federal legislation that allows Catholic health care institutions and employers to deny services to clients and insurance coverage to employees.
- Promoting change in the official Catholic position on condoms and AIDS through our Condoms4Life program, as well as encouraging people of faith, especially young adults, to use condoms to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
- Working to advance international reproductive health law and services in Latin America.
- Collaborating with UN agencies and international NGOs.
In all these areas, CFC engages in scholarly work, applied research, preparation and distribution of publications, media communications, lobbying and legislative education, training and grassroots organizing. We work in the US, throughout Latin America, in Europe and in the United Nations. In addition to its staff positions, CFC also provides unpaid opportunities for scholars and students to work with us on these issues as writers and researchers.
