Who We Are

Catholics for Choice shapes and advances sexual and reproductive ethics that are based on justice, reflect a commitment to women’s well being and respect and affirm the moral capacity of women and men to make sound decisions about their lives. Through discourse, education and advocacy, CFC works in the US and internationally to infuse these values into public policy, community life, feminist analysis and Catholic social thinking and teaching.

What We Do

Seminars, workshops, technical assistance, publishing and collaboration  with collegial groups are all components of CFC's work.  At the core of our efforts is an education and communications program that carries out the research, development, production and distribution of publications on reproductive health, ethics, theology and other topics.  Much of this work is produced in Spanish and Portuguese as well as English.

CFC educates opinion leaders, policy makers, the press and the public about the theological, ethical and political initiatives of the Roman Catholic church—as well as prochoice perspectives—along with their implications for the broader community, public policy and the lives of women.

Where We Are

We are in parishes.
From California to Vermont, prochoice Catholics speak up for reproductive rights. CFC's grassroots network, with leaders in 40 US states, promotes a prochoice Catholic perspective, brings together and supports Catholic activists for reproductive health and rights and initiates dialogue on abortion with people of varied perspectives.

We are in clinics.
Family planning decision can be difficult.  CFC helps Catholic women to make thoughtful decisions through respected publications that address Catholic doctrine and the moral and ethical issues involved in reproductive health decisions.

We are overseas.
CFC works with a global network of prochoice Catholics that includes sister organizations throughout Latin America. Our other programs and projects reach constituents in Europe, Africa and the UN.

We are in the media.
In outlets from the BBC to National Public Radio, from the New York Times to the Far East Review, interviews and quotations reflecting CFC's prochoice message reach audience in more than 100 countries.

We are in congressional and legislative offices in the US and parliaments around the world.
CFC provides lawmakers with data and educational materials that help them to make informed public policy decisions and to articulate ethically sound prochoice positions.  We work for laws that support all aspects of reproductive choice and policies that support women, families and children.

We are in coalition.
From progressive Catholic circles to feminist groups, from international health coalitions to interfaith organizations, CFC works in partnership with special constituencies to secure access to reproductive health choices for all women, to ensure the separation of church and state and to promote ethical perspectives based on respect for women.
