CFC at the Commission on the Status of Women
This month marks the 54th meeting of the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women, where CFC has long been an active participant. We have promoted reproductive health, rights and justice and exposed the detrimental influence the Vatican has at the UN where it has sought to block proposals to improve women’s health worldwide.
At this year’s meeting, CFC president Jon O’Brien was invited by the Swedish government to speak on a panel about the influence of religious fundamentalists on the achieving the UN Millennium Development Goals. CFC also sponsored a panel on Reproductive Health Access in the Americas, bringing in experts and advocates to talk about challenges they face. Listen to podcasts in Spanish that explain the current situation in Nicaragua and El Salvador.

Catholics for Choice has taken a stand and has been in the thick of it, meeting with members of Congress, working with our colleagues to move the debate forward and providing extensive comment to the media. Our national poll continues to inform the debate, as we work to correct misinformation and provide accurate information about what Catholics really believe about healthcare reform. Our polls in four Congressional Districts also reveal how out of touch some political leaders are with the views of the electorate.
