Pro-Choice Catholic Testimony

I continue to choose to practice my Catholic faith within the institutional church even though, as a woman, I have felt disrespected and unsupported. People often ask me how I can stay when I believe so strongly in women’s rights. I say that I feel a deep connection to the sacraments and liturgies, to the music, the emphasis on social justice, and the communities where I’ve made deep connections and raised my children. I believe in love, mercy, forgiveness, inclusion, and peace. I trust in God. And I trust women. I pray that my church will too — and soon. That is why I have been a member of Catholics for Choice since 1985.
