Background:

Catholics For Choice (CFC) was founded in 1973 to shape and advance sexual and reproductive ethics that are based on justice, reflect a commitment to a person’s well-being, and affirm the capacity of all people to make moral decisions about their lives.

General Summary:

Catholics for Choice (CFC) is seeking an eager communicator passionate about the intersection of faith and reproductive rights to serve as our Communications Assistant. The ideal candidate to join our team is an ambitious go-getter who is eager to learn how to use website and email as a tool to mobilize constituents. We are looking for a strong writer for both short, pithy content and longer-form web-based content to help communicate CFC’s message to the world. This is a role for someone early in their career who has an interest in learning communications and digital tactics in a supportive environment.

The Communications Assistant joins a communications team of four additional full-time positions and one consultant specializing in Latinx outreach. We value work-life balance and plan well in advance, so we have the space for rapid-response, recognizing that communications does not always fit neatly into a 9-5 job. Someone successful in this role has a deep commitment to upholding an organizational culture of inclusion, transparency, generosity, mutual respect, and admiration. Candidates must demonstrate a strong belief in and actively support the philosophy and mission of CFC.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a calendar to balance the email schedule for the policy, development, and communications teams and ensure a wide array of frequent constituent communications.
  • Understand and regularly update CFC’s website content, including updating our web resources, press releases, and other content.
  • Work with CFC’s Director of Communications & Strategy to build and implement an improved constituent Action Center on our website.
  • Monitor CFC’s Google Ad Grant and make changes as needed.
  • Assist with brainstorming and message creation for social media content, web, and other communications as needed.
  • Support CFC constituent communications by staffing our general email and social media inboxes.
  • Participate in CFC social media and web campaigns, assisting with content creation.
  • Track reporting and analytics for email and web.
  • Other duties as assigned to assist with the Communications Team.

 Qualifications:

  • One to three years of communications experience (web and/or email preferred).
  • Passion for social justice, Catholicism, and/or reproductive health issues.
  • Excellent writing skills and an eagle eye for typos.
  • Comfort with (or willingness to learn) HTML and other coding.
  • Knowledge of EveryAction and WordPress preferred.
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics and Google Ads a plus.
  • Working fluency in Spanish a plus.
  • Additional experience with social media, press, or other communications a plus.

Compensation:

Salary for this position fits within a range of $45,000 to $50,000 (Assistant) and will be commensurate with relevant degrees and professional experience.

 LOCATION:

The position is based in Washington, D.C. The Communications Assistant must be physically located in Washington and work in-person when it is safe to return to work. Permanent, 100% remote work is not an option for this position. We are working a hybrid model (2 days in office, 3 days work from home), though on pause due to the Omicron variant. Our plan is to eventually establish a 3 days in-office, 2 days WFH permanent schedule.
