International Research Intern

Reports to: Director of Special Projects, International Programs Associate

FLSA Status: Part-time, Non-exempt

Background

Established in 1973, Catholics for Choice (CFC) works in the United States and across the world to ensure that all people have access to safe and affordable reproductive health care services and to infuse the organization’s core values into public policy, community life, and Catholic social thinking and teaching. Understanding that reproductive freedom is Catholic social justice value, Catholics for Choice works to dismantle religiously based obstructions to abortion care, contraceptive access, and comprehensive health care, particularly because these barriers disproportionately affect people of color, the poor, and the vulnerable.

Job Description

Catholics for Choice (CFC) is seeking a hardworking and highly motivated undergraduate or graduate student with a passion for research in the scope of reproductive rights to fill a paid internship opening. This internship would support our International Program to conduct a research project in Separation of Church and State in specific countries, during Spring of 2023 (February through June (flexible)). The ideal candidate will be reliable as well as a resourceful and independent thinker. The intern will meet weekly with our International Program team to help organize, select or eliminate, catalogue and process their findings that will be compiled for institutional purposes.

Responsibilities:

  • Help identify and assess the importance of press releases, news articles, columns, papers, and other public records and materials pertinent for this project.
  • Process and summarize findings.
  • Create electronic copies and/or folders of findings.
  • Independently conduct research on topics assigned; present findings to the international team.
  • Work collaboratively with CFC International team on research initiatives focusing on the Catholic hierarchy, Latin America, and other areas of interest.

Qualifications:

  • Current undergraduate/graduate student or recent graduate.
  • Knowledge of research resources; background coursework or interest in reproductive rights, and/or Catholic social teaching is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite,
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision as well as alongside team members and to prioritize and meet project deadlines.
  • Great attention to detail in organizational, and strong written and oral communication skills.
  • A desire to enhance their research and investigative skills.
  • Efficiency working with translation programs.
  • Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Compensation:
The Research Intern would be paid $15/hour and is expected to work at least 15-20 hours per week. CFC will work to accommodate your schedule as a student.

Location:
The Research Intern is a remote position.
