Policy Intern

Reports to: State Policy Associate

FLSA Status: Full-time, Exempt

Location: Washington, DC


Catholics For Choice (CFC) was founded in 1973 to shape and advance sexual and reproductive ethics that are based on justice, reflect a commitment to a person’s well-being, and affirm the capacity of all people to make moral decisions about their lives.

General Summary:

Catholics for Choice (CFC) is seeking a hardworking and highly motivated undergraduate or graduate student with a passion for social justice and reproductive health, rights, and justice for a paid internship supporting our Policy Team during the Fall of 2022 (beginning in early September through early December). The ideal candidate will be a reliable team player who is eager to learn about the policy-making process, faith-based advocacy, and daily work at a nonprofit organization and possesses a deep commitment to upholding an organizational culture of inclusion, transparency, generosity, mutual respect, accountability, and admiration. The Policy Intern should have the ability to remain flexible and meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced, every-changing environment. Candidates must demonstrate a strong belief in and actively support the philosophy and mission of CFC.


  • Assist with analyzing, tracking, and supporting advocacy efforts surrounding legislation related to reproductive freedom at the state and national levels.
  • Conduct policy research on abortion, contraception, Catholic healthcare, LGBTQIA+ equality, federal judicial nominees, and other related issues.
  • Draft policy materials including talking points, action alerts, memos, and spreadsheets.
  • Actively monitor and participate in events such as coalition meetings, congressional hearings, activist trainings, and webinars.
  • Manage and utilize information in internal databases.
  • Provide support for team projects and events including webinars and lobby days.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Current undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Knowledge of social justice and/or reproductive health issues; background, coursework, or experience in faith-based advocacy work, theology, and/or Catholic social teaching a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, such as Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Ability to work independently without constant supervision as well as alongside team members and to prioritize and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and written and verbal communication skills.


The Policy Intern paid $15/hour and is expected to work at least 10 to 15 hours a week. CFC will work to accommodate your busy schedule as a student.


While it is preferred that the Policy Intern is physically located in DC and able work in-person when it is safe to do so, CFC is willing to explore remote work for the ideal candidate.
