Catholics for Mife

Mifepristone is under attack.

The scientific evidence is clear, and most people — including Catholics — support abortion access. Yet policies governing access to abortion medication are changing rapidly. This year, telehealth access was restricted and then reinstated within weeks. A federal appeals court restricted mifepristone nationwide, including in states where abortion is fully legal. The Supreme Court temporarily restored access. At the same time, a politically driven FDA safety review could bring back the in-person dispensing requirement. Nothing about access to this medication is settled.

But let us be clear: The attacks on mifepristone are driven by the Christian right and violate our freedom of religion. The religious- and politically motivated legal actions to restrict access to abortion medication threaten people’s ability to make conscience-driven decisions to end a pregnancy or manage a miscarriage. Well-funded Christian nationalist and right-wing Catholic organizations will stop at nothing to restrict reproductive freedom, regardless of what people need and support, and the science demonstrates.
