Catholics for Choice Launches Catholics Campuses 4 Contraception: A Campaign for Contraception Access, Education, and Transparency
WASHINGTON — Catholics for Choice, which serves the pro-choice Catholic majority, just launched Catholics Campuses 4 Contraception, a new national campaign for students, alumnus, and community members to demand that Catholic universities provide contraception access, education, and transparency.
Maddy Niziolek, Organizing and Engagement Specialist at Catholics for Choice, said: “Contraception is not a controversial issue for Catholic people: 98% of Catholics in the United States have used some form of birth control at some point in their lives. But the church hierarchy continues to oppose it, leading to 83% of Jesuit Catholic universities refusing to provide students with contraception for the purposes of preventing pregnancy. Instead of emboldening their students to shape their future, they are weaponizing our faith against them.
This is not an abstract doctrinal conversation. When the hierarchy’s opposition to contraception is translated into campus health policy, it becomes a lived reality for students who must navigate reproductive health choices without comprehensive information or access.
As Catholics we know that comprehensive healthcare, including access to contraception, education, and transparency, is an essential part of caring for the whole person. Contraception is not a sin; it is a lifeline, and it ought to be accessible anytime, anywhere, and for any reason.
Catholics for Choice is calling on students, alumni, and community members to join this campaign, urging Catholic universities to provide access to contraception, education, and transparency in alignment with Jesuit values of caring for the whole person, service, and justice.”
