St. Paul–Minneapolis Allegedly Undervaluing Assets for Abuse Claims
Print Print
Lawyers representing hundreds of clergy abuse survivors claimed that the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis has been shielding more than $1 billion in assets from abuse claims, the Wall Street Journal reports. Bankruptcy filings had estimated the archdiocese’s worth at $45 million. Though Archbishop Bernard Hebda said that all assets had been disclosed, Jeff Anderson, attorney for some of the claimants, said, “It’s a serious and sinister scheme to hide and conceal their true net worth,” according to the StarTribune.
